M2 chip surpasses Ryzen 7 6800U in real game performance

When running the 3D game “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” on Apple’s M2 chip , it outperformed AMD’s latest generation mobile PC processor “Ryzen 7 6800 U” .

It seems to have high game performance among chips for mobile PCs.

Game performance of M2 chip exceeding Ryzen 7 6800 U

The YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed ran the 3D game “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” on an M2 chip and compared it to AMD’s Ryzen 7 6800 U.

Game performance of M2 chip and Ryzen 7 6800 U

According to it, the frame rate when running on the M2 chip was higher than the Ryzen 7 6800 U.

In terms of power consumption, the Ryzen 7 6800U has a maximum thermal design power (TDP) of 25W, while Hardware Unboxed estimates that it is a TDP 18W for the M2 chip, and the M2 chip is considered to be more advantageous.

The M2 chip recorded the same performance as NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti in the Geekbench 5 Metal Benchmark .

The number of games that can be played is an issue

The game performance of the M2 chip is comparable to that of the latest generation x86 CPUs, but the problem is that the number of games that can be played on the Mac is small .

Currently, the high GPU performance of the M2 chip will be mainly used for image processing and video processing.

However, the Mac gaming environment is gradually being improved, with NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW supporting the M1 chip and the next-generation macOS Ventura improving the gaming experience .

MacBook Air with M2 chip will start accepting orders from 9 pm today .
