Netflix announced on July 7 local time that it has partnered with German audio equipment maker Sennheiser to enable spatial audio content viewing on all devices, not just Apple devices .
Uses Sennheiser’s AMBEO technology
Sennheiser ‘s AMBEO technology enhances stereo audio for an immersive surround sound experience on all devices and viewing plans. There is no need to have surround speakers or a home theater.
This feature enables 3D audio on devices that normally do not support 3D audio (including Apple products). Netflix has been compatible with Apple’s 3D audio since August 2021, but it’s a different technology and is designed for people who don’t have a device that supports 3D audio. According to Netflix , even subscribers who don’t have surround sound speakers or devices that support traditional spatial audio will automatically have spatial audio enabled when they watch a compatible movie or drama.
Spatial audio reproduces the sound of movies, videos, and TV programs with the immersive sound of a movie theater, providing a sound experience that makes you feel as if you are surrounded by sound from all directions.
Starting on the 7th, support for 3D audio will be gradually rolled out throughout the content provided by Netflix. Not all works can be viewed in 3D audio, and you can see a list of compatible works by typing “3D audio” in the search bar.
